An AI meditation app that listens first
ZenGPT is an AI meditation app for iPhone that starts with a conversation instead of a catalog. You say how you're doing, in your own words, and ZenGPT personalizes a guided meditation for that moment.
An example check-in
ZenGPT: How are you feeling right now?
You: Long day. I'm home but my head is still at work.
ZenGPT: That's a hard switch to make. Is it more the thoughts that keep going, or your body that still feels switched on?
What makes it an AI meditation app
The phrase covers two quite different things. In some apps, AI is a recommendation layer: it reads what you've played and what you've said, then points you to something in a large library you could also have browsed yourself. In others, AI shapes the session itself.
ZenGPT does some of both, and is deliberate about where the AI stops. The check-in is a real conversation, so you never have to translate a feeling into a category. The practice is chosen from that conversation, and the session is personalized around what you said, every time.
How ZenGPT uses AI, step by step
- The check-in. A short chat on the home screen. Type how you're feeling, tap one of the suggested replies, or use dictation. ZenGPT reflects back what it heard and asks at most one question at a time.
- The suggestion. Usually after one or two exchanges, ZenGPT offers a session as a card in the chat, so you can see the practice and its length before you start.
- Your meditation. ZenGPT personalizes the session for that moment. It greets you by name, acknowledges how you're feeling, and guides you through a practice that fits, in one calm voice.
- The follow-up. After the session you can say how it landed, and that feedback shapes the tone of the next one.
Personal, never improvised
ZenGPT's guidance isn't made up on the spot. Every practice is written by people working with AI, drafted and cut until the pacing, the pauses and the language are right. When you press play, nothing is improvised at you mid-session.
That's deliberate. A guided meditation depends on timing and restraint, which is exactly what a model writing in real time is worst at. So ZenGPT uses AI where it helps, understanding your moment and personalizing your session, and keeps the guidance itself calm and steady.
Who ZenGPT is for
People who know a few quiet minutes would help, but get stuck on the choosing. If you've ever opened a meditation app, scrolled for five minutes and closed it again, the check-in replaces that scroll with a question you can actually answer: how are you, right now?
It also suits people who are new to meditation. Every session is guided from start to finish, so there's nothing to learn first, and you don't need to know the names of techniques to get started. There's more on what gets tailored to you in personalized guided meditation.
What happens to what you tell it
A check-in can be personal, so ZenGPT asks before anything is shared. The first time you reach an AI feature, a screen explains what is sent, names the services that receive it, and waits for your answer. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings, under Privacy. The Privacy Policy lists every provider and what each one does.
ZenGPT also screens what you write for signs of an acute crisis. If something you share suggests you might be in danger, it doesn't start a meditation. It shows crisis-support resources instead, because a meditation is the wrong kind of support for that moment.
What ZenGPT is not
ZenGPT is not therapy, and it's not a general-purpose chatbot. The conversation exists to get you into a meditation that fits, not to replace a person you can talk to. It's also not ChatGPT: ZenGPT is an independent app, not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
ZenGPT makes one new meditation a day, for the moment you check in. You can replay it as often as you like, and the next day's check-in starts fresh. It's free to download on the App Store for iPhone, and using it requires a Premium subscription, with the price shown before you confirm. More answers are in the FAQ.
